There are actually three separate routes that include the Jhomolhari. The main is the Jholmohari trek. The second is the Jholmohari loop trek, it runs from Gunitsawa Village to Jomolhari and then back to Gunitsawa via Soi Yaktsa and Thombu Shong. For those that want to avoid the high passes and high altitude the same route can be done as a straight there and back trek. The final route is also shorter than the main trek, taking just six days to reach the base camp from Drukgyel Dzong in the Paro Valley and return via the same outbound route. For those who want to avoid the high passes and high altitude, the second Jholmohari loop trek is more advisable. On the other hand, the final route is more appropriate for novices.

Finally, the main trek goes from Drukgyel Dzong to Jangothang in the beautiful Paro valley. From Jangothang the trek goes to the isolated village of Lingshi. From Lingshi it's a day trek to Shodu. From Lingshi the route goes to 4,930-meter Yelila Pass, from where you get a great view of Jomolhari, Tserimgang, and Masanggang mountains, before making the steep downhill run to the campsite. The descending route goes from Barshong to Dolam Kencho and from there to the beautiful Cherri Monastery. This route is fairly difficult and hence not advisable for novices of those with heart/ lung issues. 

The ideal time to do this trek is April to June and late September to the end of November. On the way, you can also explore museums and *Dzongs* such as the Rinpung Dzong, Taktsang Monastery and National Museum of Bhutan.
