Tour Overview

Portugal has become an important tourist destination of Europe by the dent of its beautiful landscapes and resplendent architecture. It is lashed by the Atlantic Ocean which has a great bearing on its culture and cuisine as you will find salt cod and grilled sardines being sold like hot cakes. Sintra tours will take you to places where you can explore the outskirts of Lisbon.  Places like Sintra and Evora have carved a niche for themselves in tourism.  While Sintra prunes   Pena Palace, Castle of the Moors, and Quaint museum; Evora is boasts its beautiful Roman temples and chapels. The tour will also include a visit to Estoril, Santa cruz, Obidos, Douro, Porto, and Amarante which have hordes of tourist spots to make it a memorable trip.

Itinerary


Day 01: Arrival Lisbon

Arrival in Lisbon the capital of Portugal, pick-up your rent-a-car at the counter and drive towards the city. You'll be charmed with Chiado, Bairro Alto and Alfama as well as the Castle of Saint George with it’s gorgeous views from the top of the hill.

In Belem discover the Jeronimos Monastery as well as the Tower of Belem (both World Heritage Sites). At Antiga Confeitaria de Belém (simply known as "Pastéis de Belém" or "Belém pastries") you may devour one or several of Lisbon's famous custard tarts that originated on this site. After dinner go to ‘’Adega Machado’’ so you can drink while listening to our typical Portuguese Fado. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 02: Sintra

In the morning, after breaksfast explore Sintra. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for it’s great beauty and natural setting, architecture, fairy tale palaces and lush vegetation. Visit the Quinta da Regaleira. This enigmatic neo- Manueline monument is a magical place of fantastical gardens, grottoes, lakes, and a well with a monumental staircase spiraling down 30 meters. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 03: Évora

Breakfast at the hotel. Évora is an amazing destination offering historical sights as the Diana Temple and Chapel of Bones. Plus some kilometers away you’ll find the Portuguese Stonehenge. You will have a wine tasting in Adega da Cartuxa booked. When you arrive at your hotel, you’ll be met by the kind bell boy and brought to the reception to try their tea, served in Japanese tea set. Overnight at the hotel. 

Day 04: Evora

Breakfast at the hotel. There are certainly great hotels in Évora, but the romantic choice falls on L’AND Vineyards. On a clear night you’ll be able to gaze at the stars and milky way as there is no light pollution near. You’ll have one free wine tasting in the hotel and they also have heated pool and sauna. Don’t forget to ask for the eggs Benedict for breakfast to complete the romantic and healthy experience. Overnight at the hotel. 

Day 05: Santa Cruz

Breakfast at the hotel. About an hour away from Lisbon, Santa Cruz offers a romantic rocky beach, great sea food and coolbars. Your hotel is isolated and not so easy to reach which makes it the perfect get away for two. Eating at the hotel restaurant is an experience by itself, but you can also check Cervejaria Restaurante Boca Santa for a typical Portuguese food experience with sea view. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 06: Santa Cruz

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will have a relaxing day in the hotel, we have booked a special romantic package for the two love-birds. This consists of a preparation of an in-room Jacuzzi bath with floral extracts of orchids, ylang - ylang, wild roses and poppies. With depurative and purifying properties of the skin they provide a sensorial and delicate bath.

Relax your body and delight yourself. To finish, have a relaxing massage "Alma Floral" with jasmine and lavender essence. Overnight at the hotel. 

Day 07: Óbidos, Aveiro, Águeda and Douro

Breakfast at the hotel. When you first visit Óbidos you will think it is one of the most romantic little towns.

Walk on the top of the walls –make the whole round if possible and then descend through the small streets which are the most charming. On the main street, you’ll find a fabulous church, cute little shops and traditional pâtisseries.

No visit of Óbidos is completed without having the famous Ginga of Óbidos–sour cherry liqueur, served in a chocolate cup.

Discover the charming city of Aveiro, often called "The Venice of Portugal". During your visit, don’t resist temptation and get on board a traditional boat for a small 45 minute trip on the city canals. You will discover the colourful houses built along the canals and enjoy the captain’s commentaries.

On your path have a small stop in the small town of Águeda. It not very well known, but in July there is music, street art, dancing performance, and much more. And the most romantic part is–the hanging umbrellas. How beautiful the streets become. Overnight at the hotel. 

Day 08: Douro

Breakfast at the hotel. Douro region has become more popular in the last years, but if well chosen the place and hotel it couldn’t be more far from mass tourism. For the most romantic experience, we chose a hotel which the exterior is a renovated 19th century manor house overlooking the vine hills of the Douro Valley and the river. There are several restaurants, but which ever you choose, you can’t go wrong because consulting chef is Ljubomir Stanisic, who’s the chef-owner of the famous 100 Maneiras in Lisbon Also we added a private yacht / boat to take you on a cruise on the river with dinner and port wine tasting, this will be one of the most memorable experiences you’ll ever have. Overnight at the hotel. 

Day 09: Amarante

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive towards Amarante, you will be impressed by the great Serra do Marão rising above the city in a series of majestic landscapes and the river Tâmega, giving added colour to the picturesque houses standing on its banks. Amarante's sweets and cakes are extremely famous and easy to find in many of the region's cake-shops and cafés. Remember some of the names and make sure to taste them for yourself: papos de anjo, brisas do Tâmega, toucinho do céu,bolos de São Gonçalo, galhofas. Overnight at the hotel. 

Day 10: Porto

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will be able to spend the whole day exploring Porto. Its numerous, old churches have given the city its nickname "Baroque Town". The old town has been a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage since 1996. Visit the most important sights of the city and take a mini-cruise (50 minutes) on the Douro in old wine ships, the "barcosrabelos". Afterwards, take a port wine tasting in a traditional port wine cellar from Vila Nova de Gaia. Popular photographs are among others. also the large entrance hall of the S. Bento station, decorated in 1930 wallpaper-like with blue-and-white tiles, and the steel double bridge Dom Luís I, a bold iron construction by the French engineer Gustave Eiffel. Overnight at the hotel. 

Day 11: Departure Porto

Breakfast at the hotel. Today ends your Portugal trip and you drive back to Porto airport by car. After returning the rental car at the counter, check-in for your flight home. In the baggage, you will have countless new impressions and memories of an unforgettable rental car trip through this beautiful Country that is Portugal.
