Day 02: In Sofia
After breakfast, together with their guide the group will go to the centre of the city where the tour of the charming capital begins. The city tour starts at Sveti Nedelja Square, where wide avenues begin to appear. A few steps further you will find the Rotunda of Saint Gorge, and one of the oldest churches in the city, built in the fourth century. Then you have the opportunity to admire the interesting and valuable building of the like Banya Bashi mosque, the Archaeological Museum, and the Presidency. The main landmark of the city is the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, which was built in the beginning twentieth century.
In the afternoon, you will go to the National History Museum, which is housed by the Old Presidential Palace. Enjoy its spectacular exhibitions such as the fantastic treasure of Tracian gold of the fourth century BC. Of Panagyurishte, as well as Roman artefacts, Greek poetry, icons and folk costumes. Day 03: Sofia – Rila – Dobarsko – Plovdiv
This morning you will travel to the Rila Mountains, where you will visit the famous Rila Monastery. The beautiful monastery was built in the fourteenth century and houses valuable paintings, manuscripts, old books and masterpieces carved in wood. The monastery is protected by UNESCO From here, you will go to the city of Plovdiv (European capital of culture for 2019), one of the oldest cities in Europe. Stop on the way in the small village Dobarsko, where the grandmothers will welcome you with songs and traditional pastry. Check in at the hotel in Plovdiv for the next 2 nights. Day 04: In Plovdiv
Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria and the administrative centre of the municipality of Plovdiv. It is located on the Upper Thracian Plain, on the two banks of the Maritsa River. Plovdiv is one of the oldest cities in Europe, the beginning of its history dates back 5000 years BC. The Old Town is a real outdoor Archaeological Museum that has incalculable ancient vestiges of the times of the Romans. During the tour of the city you will discover a unique historical and cultural heritage, such as the Ancient Roman Theater, the Roman Stadium, the Constantin and Elena Saints' Church and the Ethnographic Museum. Day 05: Plovdiv – Kazanluk– Shipka Pass – Etar – V.Tarnovo
Today we will visit the famous Rose Valley near Kazanluk, the centre of the cultivation of roses, famous especially for the production of oil and rose creams. Visit the Rose Museum in Kazanluk and learn more about the history of rose growing in Bulgaria. Also in Kazanluk visit the Thracian Tomb which is protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site (Replica). Continue your panoramic trip to the Schipka Pass and then to the Etar Museum. The Etar Museum is a spectacular outdoor museum, where you can still see artisans manufacturing souvenirs, jewelry and handicrafts. Transfer to Veliko Tarnovo, where you will stay for the next 2 nights. Overnight at hotel in Veliko Tarnovo.
Day 06: Veliko Tarnavo - Arbanassi - Veliko Tarnavo
Today you will discover the medieval capital of Bulgaria - Veliko Tarnavo - which has a history of more than 5000 years. Visit the Tsaravets Fortress and the church of San Demetrio. Today you will visit a picturesque mountain town to Troyan, a small town where you will discover the Troyan Monastery, a remarkable monument of national importance, founded in 1600. Continue your trip to Koprivstitsa. The architecture of this small city reflects the historical growth and development of traditional Bulgarian architecture, which can still be observed in its various forms in the present. Here you can visit the Oslekov House, which was built in 1856 by the wealthy Koprivshtitsa merchant, Nencho Oslenkov. A particular interest is the walls and columns with abundant decorations that represent the lifestyle of a wealthy family of Koprivshtitsa in the nineteenth century.
